It’s peach season now, which means I have a couple of peaches sitting in my fridge, starting to ever so slowly morph into wrinkled lumps. Whatever fruit is in season at any given time, it is lovingly placed in the fruit crisper, only to be found a few weeks later, looking not quite so lovely anymore.
It’s not that we don’t like fruit; I love shopping for whatever is ‘in season’, it makes me feel like some sort of homemaker goddess. And we do eat some. We just forget they’re in there, I guess.
So tonight, in an attempt to round out a kind of lame supper, I thought “peaches”! I just heard of a new way to have them: grilled; supposed to bring out all its flavor and taste divine. And grilling is pretty supper-y, as opposed to snack-y or dessert-y, right?
So I gave it a go.
My husband was a little surprised to find a plate of peaches and cream when he came home for dinner. I ended up doing a sweet recipe (a total weakness of mine) and couldn’t help adding a bit of cream on the side – it looks so pretty, and I always maintain that appetizers can really be a dessert takeoff, especially when I happen to be in the mood of that particular dessert and can’t wait till the meal is over. That’s the best part about being a grown-up; no one tells you have to finish your veggies if want your sweets! 😉 Not that I don’t like veggies, but if you try this recipe, I’m sure you’ll want to have it before your broccoli too.
