Personally, I love Rosh Hashanah. The promise of a new year, the chance to get together with family and friends for a festive meal, the resetting of fall routines and the cooler chill in the air. I also happen to love the vast array of possibilities that entertaining at this time of year affords. Whether it falls at the beginning of September when summer bounty is still in full swing or in the middle of the month, as it does this year, when there is still an abundance of wonderful local Indian summer produce from which to choose. I also happen to love experimenting with sweet flavours in my main courses to ensure that everyone I love and invite to our dinner table has a sweet morsel to usher in the New Year. The menu I have devised has something sweet in almost every course. Sometimes it’s hidden, as the honey is in the vinaigrette for the spinach salad is, and sometimes it’s more apparent as is the case with the apples in the stuffing for the Maple Orange Chickens. And then sometimes, it just necessarily comes in with a hallelujah as it deliciously does with the Apple Spice Cake with Caramel Glaze. Whether you choose to make the entire meal or pick and choose, I wish you a sweet and wonderfully happy and healthy New Year!!
