Last week, Toronto had the opportunity to witness a whole city come together and bake delicious delights in support of a local organization called Small Wonders. Over 400 balabustas got their aprons on and baked a special cake, a batch of cookies, cheesecakes, rugulach and more for the special cause. Small Wonders touches the heart of many as they aim to support Canadian Jewish couples who are experiencing infertility. Small Wonders has grown from a small organization with a helpline, referral service and financial assistance to a larger support system that helps educate couples, conducts seminars, and provide services such the help of local nurses. Their big annual fundraising event, the Small Wonders Bake Sale, has been running strong for the last 6 years. But even after 6 years, the Small Wonders Bake Sale continues to amaze everyone who comes, and just gets bigger and bigger. This year, they had 700 items for sale and over 30 spectacular floral arrangements available for purchase. Women from all over the city contribute by baking one or two home-baked items, restaurants and caterers donate kosher-certified cakes and baked goods as well, and faithful volunteers help to package everything in beautiful uniform boxes. The Bake Sale opens at 9 am with a gush of women eager to get the best desserts for their Yom Tov table. The event is the talk of the town.
